Let’s collaborate to make sustainability simpler
A simple way to share sustainability information
An industry-designed solution that gives suppliers one standardised place to share their sustainability practices (and takes less than 60 minutes to complete).
Complete it once. Share it with everyone.
Built alongside sustainability experts, certification bodies, and industry organisations.
The Challenge?
-
New legislation means every link in the travel supply chain must now prove its sustainability practices.
-
Tour operators, DMCs, and travel agents need to gather that data across their entire supply chain.
-
Information sits in multiple formats and locations, which means unnecessary admin and duplication.
-
Real supplier community and conservation work stays invisible, buried in spreadsheets and email threads instead of being built into something searchable and sellable.
- Travellers get little transparency and no simple way to support the initiatives behind their trip.
The Solution.
-
Wetu's Sustainability Profile gives suppliers one standardised place to capture and share their sustainability practices with the trade, through a yes/no questionnaire that takes less than 60 minutes to complete.
*It does not replace certification - Our Good We Do section enables suppliers to turn their responsible tourism story into a powerful marketing asset through a space dedicated to capturing their impact stories, videos and images.
- Our Governance form gives trade partners the health, safety and legal due diligence they need, from fire and pool safety to insurance, data protection and legal history.
Together, the Sustainability Profile, Good We Do and Governance form keep honest records of what's being done, prove it with real stories and evidence, and confirm suppliers meet the safety and legal standards operators need.
The Challenge?
New legislation is coming, and it affects every link in the industry's supply chain.
-
Source market laws require suppliers to declare their sustainability practices
-
Tour operators, Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and travel agents need to gather data across their entire supply chain
-
Information sits in multiple formats and locations, which means unnecessary admin and duplication
The Solution.
One simple form. One central place. Easy for everyone.
-
One standardised way to capture sustainability information, designed and backed by the industry
-
Suppliers complete it once, and trade partners can access it anytime
-
Lets everyone see the responsible actions you're taking
*Doesn't replace certification

Frequently asked questions
What is the Sustainability Profile initiative?
The Sustainability Profile is a simple, standardised questionnaire that allows suppliers to share their sustainability practices in one central place.
It's designed to give trade partners a clear, consistent view of:
- What you're already doing
- Where you are on your journey
- How you align with responsible tourism expectations
- The accountability categories in the profile are; ‘Certified (third-party audit), Working with a sustainability standard (not yet certified), Actively implementing sustainability practices (not planning certification), Beginning our sustainability journey, Not yet started, Not applicable
Think of it as your "single source of truth" for sustainability, which means no more repeating yourself to every partner.
Who is the Sustainability Profile for?
Suppliers and Buyers/Tour Operators, DMCs, Travel Agents
Suppliers complete the form. Buyers use the data to make better, faster decisions.
What problem does the Sustainability Profile solve?
Right now, sustainability information is:
- Scattered across emails, PDFs, and spreadsheets
- Inconsistent between suppliers
- Time-consuming to collect and verify
This creates admin overload for everyone.
The Sustainability Profile solves this by:
- Centralising information in one place
- Standardising the format
- Making it accessible to the entire trade
How long does the Sustainability Profile take to complete?
Estimated time: 45–60 minutes
It's intentionally:
- Simple
- Non-technical
- No documentation required
Do I need proof or documentation to fill in the Sustainability Profile?
No.
This is a self-declaration, not an audit.
- No documentation required
- No scoring or grading
- No "pass/fail"
It's about sharing honestly where you are, not proving perfection.
Does the Sustainability Profile replace sustainability certification?
No.
Certification still matters for:
- Formal verification
- Compliance
- Credibility
The Sustainability Profile is:
- A visibility tool
- A way to show progress while working towards certification
What kind of questions are included in the Sustainability Profile?
The questionnaire covers key areas like:
- People practices (staff wellbeing, fair wages, training)
- Energy & climate (renewables, energy tracking)
- Water, waste, and plastic
- Community and biodiversity
- Procurement and culture
In total, there are 10 categories: biodiversity, community, people practices, water, energy and climate, waste and plastic, procurement practices, culture and heritage, credible communication, accountability
Questions are mostly simple Yes/No
Where does the Sustainability Profile information live?
Everything is housed within Wetu, the platform most African suppliers already use for:
- Sales content
- Images and videos
- Rates and collateral
So instead of adding another tool, this becomes part of their existing workflow.
How do buyers see my sustainability information in Wetu?
Buyers can see your Sustainability Profile, Certification, Good We Do and Governance content in four places:
- The Supplier Profile link or QR code – shared directly between the supplier and buyer.
- Wetu Product Manager – hover-and-click icons under the "Responsible Tourism" column, including the certificate from your certifying body.
- Wetu Discovery, Classic and Lite itineraries – The "Good We Do" tab linked to your listing and certificate (the Sustainability Profile is not visible to travellers)
- Wetu iBrochure – under the "Responsible Tourism" tab, with your certification shown under "Certification and Sustainability."
What is the Governance checklist and how does it relate to the responsible tourism information captured on a Sustainability Profile?
Your Governance checklist covers the bigger picture regarding health & safety, compliance, and due diligence, with a summary view of where you stand on sustainability.
The Sustainability Profile is the detailed version of that summary. It's where your full sustainability story lives, feeding into the sustainability line on your Governance checklist.
You only need to fill it in once. Complete your Sustainability Profile, and the details will flow through to the sustainability line on your Governance checklist automatically
Is there a fee or cost associated?
No, it is free for suppliers or buyers to view or use the Wetu Sustainability Profile initiative.
For Suppliers:
- The Sustainability Profile is available as part of Wetu’s free ‘Core’ supplier profile. A QR code and a URL link to a core profile can be shared with anyone. The supplier does not need to be a Professional (paid) account holder.
- The Good We Do is only accessible to suppliers using Wetu’s paid Professional profile package Pricing.
For Operators:
- Buyers can access any supplier profile through a URL link or a QR code. They are not required to have a Wetu account to access the supplier profile, but they will be required to ask the supplier to share the link or code with them directly.
- Buyers/operators with Wetu accounts are able to access the supplier Responsible Tourism information within the platform through itinerary outputs, the iBrochures and Product Manager
What happens after I complete the Sustainability Profile?
Once submitted:
- It becomes visible to your trade partners
- It can be updated anytime
- It contributes to your overall sustainability and Wetu profile
- It is not visible to travellers
Is the information in the Sustainability Profile verified?
Yes. Accredited suppliers can upload their existing certifications.
When the supplier submits their completed forms, their certification scheme provider will verify their accreditation.

- Easier access to sustainability-conscious operators

What if I'm just getting started with sustainability?
Perfect. That's exactly the point.

- Starting
- Sharing
- Improving
-
Certified (third-party audit)
-
Working with a sustainability standard (not yet certified)
-
Actively implementing sustainability practices (not planning certification)
-
Beginning our sustainability journey

Can I update my Sustainability Profile answers later?
Yes, and you should.
As your business evolves, you can:
- Update your responses
- Reflect new initiatives
- Show progress over time
How do I get started?
Suppliers: Set up a Wetu core profile (if you don't already have one) — "Showcase Your Product in Minutes – Wetu Core Profile." Complete your Sustainability Profile form — "Making Sustainability Easier to Share with Wetu."
Create a free Wetu Core Profile
Operators: Start requesting it from your suppliers.
The more people participate, the more valuable this becomes for everyone.
What is the difference between the Sustainability Profile and the Good We Do sections on the itinerary?
The Good We Do is an open, dedicated section within the suppliers' Wetu profile that allows them to position and tell their responsible tourism story and becomes visible to travellers through the Wetu itineraries. This section is only available to Wetu Professional profile account holders.
The Sustainability Profile is a closed, yes/no questionnaire that lets operators view an accommodation supplier’s responsible tourism credentials; it is not visible to travellers in itinerary outputs.
What is the value in having the Good We Do section
Your conservation and community story is transformed into colour and context with the addition of Good we do. When you position it where the itineraries are actually being built, it becomes a selling point the trade can use in their own proposals, to travellers who care enough to pay for it.
Supported with a completed Sustainability Profile and Governance forms, you are able to tell and sell your For Good story with confidence and proof.
